Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I contacted Black Swan Drainage about a leak from my upstairs shower that was causing water to come through the downstairs ceiling.

I paid £80 for the diagnosis. The plumber tested around the shower drain and sealant, found water trapped beneath the flooring outside the shower, and suggested that the enclosure sealant could be the cause. However, I felt the investigation wasn’t thorough enough, and I was left without a clear answer about the source of the leak.

The problem later required another plumber to investigate and cap off a leaking pipe, leaving my shower unusable. Initially, I was disappointed because I felt the £80 hadn’t helped me identify the underlying issue.

However, Black Swan Drainage subsequently contacted me, refunded the £80 and shared some contacts for renovation work. I appreciate that they took my concerns seriously and made an effort to help resolve the situation.

Although I was disappointed with the initial diagnosis, I’m pleased with how they handled my feedback afterwards.

Henfield’s Old & New Drainage Challenges – What We See Locally

Henfield’s mix of historic cottages and new-build estates means drainage issues vary depending on where you live.

The High Street, Cagefoot Lane & Church Street – These older areas often suffer from collapsed clay pipes, root intrusion, and narrow bore drains that can’t cope with modern waste volumes. Blockages here tend to be deeper underground and harder to detect without CCTV.
Deer Park, Staples Barn Lane & Wantley Hill Estate – Built in the 1970s–80s, these homes tend to have pitch fibre drains, which can blister, flatten or collapse over time. We often find structural damage here requiring relining or spot repairs.
Beechings & Parsonage Road – Newer developments with PVC drainage. Most issues here are caused by misuse (wipes, fat, foreign objects) or poor initial installation. We’re regularly called to investigate ongoing smells or gurgling.
New builds off Stonepit Lane & the newer Barratt Homes developments – These areas sometimes suffer from settling pipework or poorly connected junctions that cause frequent blockages soon after moving in. Fortunately, these are often fixable without excavation.
